7. Restart every day
It happened with a seven-years-old boy in 1916 in a remote country: he went to school where they heated with a stove during winter. In the morning the students had to light the fire in the stove one hour before the lesson. One day he came with his brother to start the stove, but there was an explosion and the school started on fire. The boy was transported to the hospital with extremely severe burns. From the waist down, not only his skin but also his muscles were burned. He was between life and death for a long time. Once his mother and the doctor talked and they did not know that the boy was hearing them. The doctor said, "He doesn't have much chance to survive." The boy heard and said to himself, "But I want to stay alive." A few weeks later the boy left the intensive care unit and once again they believed that he was asleep. The doctor said to his mother: "We didn't believe he was going to survive, but unfortunately it is certain that he will remain lame till the end of his life. He won't be able to move his legs. They need to be amputated." The little boy said to himself, "I must walk!" Fortunately his mother did not let the doctor amputate his legs.
After the long hospital treatment his parents took him home and he was in wheelchair. Every day they massaged his feet, but for a long time no improvement seemed to happen. On a beautiful spring day his mother moved the wheelchair into the garden and left him. When she looked out later, she saw the wheelchair tipped over, and her son was nowhere to be found. He pulled himself out of the wheelchair and scrambled to the fence. Usng all of his strength at the fence, he pulled himself up and dragged himself along the fence. During the spring and summer, he repeated it every day and traversed a path along the fence. After several months, his legs began to move. After he could walk again, he realized that walking was painful, but running was not. He ran everywhere and soon became the best runner in the area. As he grew up, he won a lot of races. Finally, he overthrew the world record of one mile running of 4:06.8 in 1934 and this record stood for three years.
He was Glenn Cunningham, an American athlete and he took the courage to renew his life from his positive attitude and his belief in God. His favorite Biblical text is from the book of Isaiah: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)
"Whenever our Lord said, turn aside, he wanted the life of his disciples to be a day to day conversion" (Martin Luther)
Tip
Let's take a couple of minutes and look at our lives: is there anything we should do differently? Are our human relations okay? It's never too late to start again!
